The Wichita Falls Wildcats have come to a new lease agreement with the City of Wichita Falls and the Wichita Falls Multi-Purpose Event Center, it was announced Thursday.
The new lease will have the Wildcats calling the KYC home for the next five seasons, keeping them in Wichita Falls through the end of the 2018-19 season. “This is a great day for the Wildcats and Wichita Falls,” ownership partner Roy Davoult said. “This is all about stability for our team, our fans and our community.
With a new video board at the KYC and great things happening with other local sports franchises, it is an incredibly exciting time to be a part of the Wichita Falls sports scene. [Ownership Partner] Alex Shnayderman, myself and [Team President] Paul Baxter are thrilled we will be able to continue to provide quality, family-friendly entertainment.
Robert Sullivan, executive director of the MPEC, echoed Davoult’s sentiments. “On behalf of the MPEC, we are excited to see the Wildcats sign their new lease,” Sullivan said. “Since the building first opened in 2003, hockey has been a cornerstone of our yearly calendar at the KYC. We are pleased that the Wildcats will continue to bring excitement and stability to the MPEC and Wichita Falls.”
Davoult also pointed to the potential impact the new agreement will have on the burgeoning youth hockey program in Wichita Falls. “For me, one of the most rewarding parts of being involved with the Wildcats is seeing kids get involved with youth hockey,” he said. “We can hardly wait to see what kind of positive impact this will have on youth hockey involvement in the community.”
Under the stewardship of first-year Head Coach John LaFontaine, the Wildcats will drop the puck on the 2014-15 campaign when they host the Odessa Jackalopes on Sept. 13 at the Kay Yeager Coliseum.
All tickets for that contest are free, and can be obtained by visiting the Wildcats offices. Single-game and season tickets for the 2014-15 season are on sale now.
